Chef on a Diet II January 20, 2010

For months now, I have been racking my brain and analyzing my weight gain.  Is it really that I am sampling too much food?  Is it really portion control?  (I’ll admit the holidays are difficult for me.  This year my family from Brooklyn came in with all kinds of  goodies that we can’t get in Rochester:  special cheeses, dry sausage, grain pie…comfort food for Brooklynites.  Anyway,   I know I overindulged…but I did not eat the cheese ball with the spoon!)  Finally, it occurred to me what is going on with my body…  Coffee.  I drink too much coffee.

Between networking and dating, I probably consume between 8-10 cups of coffee a day.  (6 of those cups are before I even leave the house in the morning.)  I have found that meeting someone for coffee is the easiest and most inexpensive way to brainstorm or make someone’s acquaintance.     Share some ideas, make a plan to follow up and off to the next coffee date.

And I don’t drink my coffee black.  I have lots of half and half and 1-2 splendas (this is like an extra 500 calories a day!)   Or worse, I will have a latte or cappuccino.  Now, could I get “skinny” versions of these?  I could, but I don’t.  Oh and add on a muffin or cookie too because I have been running around all day, haven’t eaten and forgot to pack my baby carrots and cheese sticks.

Last week, I drank less coffee  certain that I could rid myself of the addiction.  Yea…that didn’t work.  What I got was a headache.  And my friends thought I was nuts.   So, I have made a plan:  At networking meetings, I will drink bottled water.  On dates, herbal tea.  At my folks house, 1 shot of espresso instead of 2.  And finally, in the morning, the return of the Mukka.

It is my opinion that the Mukka  makes great cappuccino. When I had a corporate job, I would make cappuccino every morning!  (ok- sometimes I don’t put it together correctly and it makes a weak latte) And I didn’t  feel bad about having two cups because it was made with fat free milk (only 80 calories for the two cups).  I was getting calcium, vitamin d and protein with my caffeine jolt.  Two creamy and satisfying cups of cappuccino?? Life was good!

So it’s back to the Mukka for Nina. .. If you are looking to cut out some calories and caffeine too, look into buying a Mukka and revolutionize your coffee experience.   I would love to know what you think….

Hey, would it be wrong to take this on a date?

Salute!

Nina
